Beer Bar Spotlight: The Brass Tap Trinity

The Brass Tap Trinity

The Brass Tap Trinity

When most artisan suds peeps think of Pasco, they think of Belgian owned conglomerate macro-swill and lifted 4×4’s. In their defense, up until just a few years ago, Pinellas County’s neighbor to the North was a craft beer wasteland. Things have changed.

The Brass Tap in Trinity (the upscale, yuppyish area of the county), along with close-by Big Storm Brewing Co., is helping to end that stereotype. Tucked away in a high-end looking outdoor shopping center thing off of SR 54 and Duck Slough Blvd, The Brass Tap can be a little difficult to find the first time. But not terribly tough either-especially for locals. Open for about two years now, it’s located less than a mile from Big Storm Brewing.

A hip and inviting patio grabs the eyes as you roll up, and instantly, relaxing with a handful of cold ones for the better part of the day sounds like a solid plan. As you walk in, like all Brass Tap locations, it oozes class. The long Mahogany-hued bar showcases the whopping sixty craft beers on tap, there is something for everyone- from the hardcore hophead to the uninitiated. Tables fill the rest of the seating area, and, with the dark colors, wood, and humidor, it feels a little swanky-in a good way. Strategically placed TV’s allow fans to watch games but thankfully it’s not over-the-top like a sports bar.

Husband and wife owner/operators Don and Andrea Wolfe purchased The Brass Tap Trinity in May 2014. Long hours are logged in by each, this is their life. They do a great job of keeping customers abreast via Facebook (they have nearly 4,000 likes) and are building their twitter following.

Local beer is now an emphasis and about twenty of the five dozen taps are dedicated to Florida craft. Adding more brews from the sunshine state is in the works. Big fans of fermented Bay area barley beverages, they mention Big Storm, Cigar City, 7venth Sun, and Two Henry’s as some of their favorites.

A one-page menu was recently added consisting of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, flatbreads, and pizzas. Although simple, it looks well designed with a gourmet touch, not typical bar fare. Pretzel dough pizza has a Pavlovian effect on me. I’ve never laid lips to it but it sounds amazing.

Brew Crew, a franchise wide Brass Taps rewards club, is a big hit at the Trinity location. Events take place weekly: Wednesday is trivia night, Thursday is ladies night, and bands appear each week. Other special events sound like a hoot, particularly the Outside Tailgate Party scheduled Saturday, September 6th. An Oktoberfest celebration is planned as well, and count me in for anything dubbed “Taptoberfest.”

Nice, local, hard-working small business people promoting Florida Craft Beer at their neighborhood pub- that was my take.

Congrats Pasco, thanks to The Brass Tap Trinity and Big Storm Brewing, you’ve joined the club.
