Beer Fest @ MOSI Recap

Written by on August 27, 2014 in Events

Last Saturday, August 23rd, Creative Loafing held the event, Beer Fest @ Mosi. Obviously the tasting was held at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) across from USF up in the New Tampa area. It was a fantastic evening.

The venue was top notch, a cool backdrop- stylistically and in regards to climate control, is always appreciated at a summertime Florida fest. To see brewery booths in a museum just gives the whole soiree a classy feel. And no one likes to feel like they’re about to pass out from heat exhaustion or be struck by lightning.

One thing that really stood out about MOSI (it was my first time there) was the multi-level experience and the overall beverage stand floor plan, complete with map. Many of the Tampa Bay area breweries were located in the Florida room, which made it easy to hit sweet local nectar in one swoop. Also, the ciders seemed to be clustered in the same vicinity which made it convenient for fermented apple juice fans. Booze was pouring on at least three floors, in multiple rooms, it felt like an adventure.

Another benefit of holding the ale party at a large public facility was ample and close-by parking. Entry and exit were predictably well above par too. We strategically arrived 30 minutes late to avoid any lines, and it was a simple check-in process at that point. Bathrooms were aplenty, and cleanliness didn’t seem to be an issue at all. Food trucks conveniently huddled outside the entrance. Sales were capped and lines were short.

Most of the Bay area suds factories made the trek, and their room seemed to be the biggest hit. Pair O’ Dice Brewing’s Nina Wit was a refreshing welcome as we walked in and Tampa Bay Brewing Co.’s Iron Rat Stout was sinfully complex. Both of us enjoyed the Green Bench pours as well.

All in all, Beer Fest @ Mosi was an upscale affair at a hip locale. Planned and executed with precision, it’s one not too miss next year. Kudos to Creative Loafing, MOSI, and everyone who made the frothy gala a success.
